Billions of dollars are lost every year in Australian and New Zealand, and not all of that money is cheerfully lost in the expectation that gambling is a paid form of entertainment. The more logical the mind, the less likely you are to throw money on a table or into a poker machine and expect to win. It has been said that gambling is a tax on the mathematically weak and it is these people, usually with less money to spare who are more at risk.
Professional gambling can be a fun and exciting way to make an income, but it does require a combination of knowlege and discipline. In fact, a professional gambler and a gambler are two very different types of people. A professional gambler is clear about his profit or loss expectations and only plays when the odds turn to his favour. Because the mathematics in professional gambling are so precise, his outcomes are a lot more certain than the outcomes for share market trading and property investment.
A gambler, on the other hand operates in a world of fallacies, usually based on a combination of experiences. The positive experiences, where he has had a win become his guidelines for future gambling strategies. I can assure you that over eighteen years of playing professionally in casinos, clubs and pubs, I have heard every gambling fallacy many times over.
Unfortunately poker machines do nothing to educate the player on what his true expectation is. In fact, the opposite is the truth. Symbol frequencies and payout combinations are designed to make the player believe that he is a lot closer to a big win than he really is.
With knowledge comes control and I would expect that most of my students would limit the time they spend on a poker machine to the time when they have the advantage. POKER MACHINE SCHOOL does not wish to promote the use of gaming machines and accordingly, will not take on as a student any person who is under the age of 18.
As a professional gamber, I am happy to consult with you if you consider that you do have a gambling problem and need help.
